Tottenham Hotspur Football Club which started in 1882 is an English football club, which plays in the FA English Premier League. The club is also known as Tottenham or Spurs, while their fans also refer to them as the Lilywhites because of their traditional white shirts and more recently "Yids” or Yid Army due to the traditional association with Jewish roots in North London along with current and past owners. Their home ground is White Hart Lane, Tottenham, North London.
Tottenham were the first and only non-league club to win the F.A Cup in 1901 and also the first in the twentieth century to achieve the League and FA Cup Double, winning both competitions in the 1960-61 season. In 1963, Spurs became the first British club to win a European trophy - the European Cup Winners' Cup. Tottenham is one of only 2 teams in the English league to win a major trophy in each of the last 5 decades. The other club being Manchester United. The Tottenham style of “attractive" Football has always been one of the primary features surrounding its legacy.
The club enjoys a long-standing rivalry with near neighbours Arsenal, and matches between the two are known as the North London derbies part of the many London Derbies that take place during a season. The club motto is Audere est Facere (lit: "To dare is to do") and their emblem is the cockerel(with Spurs) on a football.
